spots this morning. we started with the parade of ships as vessels from the u.s. navy and u.s. coast guard came under the golden gate bridge and into the bay. that was followed by the air show at 12:30, including some impressive of air ak crow bat icks. spectators were also wowed by a b-2 stealth bomber. the weather cooperated beautifully, viewing was clear as can be and not al at all hindered by the fog as in the case in years past. >> just makes you really proud to be an american and san franciscan and to be out here, just -- i just got shivers. just beautiful. great day. >> the planes are awesome. it's a great time, a lot of people out here. it's really fun. good times. >> reporter: and fleet week is a joint tradition between the navy, marine corps and coast guard and a chance for the public to see the military vessels and aircraft on display. the air show wraps up at 4:00 so we can expect an exodus of at least one group of people just a short from now. the blue angels are still flying overhead. we'll have a wrap-up of this show atite:00. live in san francisco, monty francis, nbc

motel last week. they say at the robbed two u.s. banks at gun point. the first san jose on august 28th. second in sunnyvale on september 25th. they found evidence linking him to the crimes in his hotel room. >>> halloween came early today. police stopped a driver on fourth street when they noticed he was wearing a gas mask. they also found he had a realistic looking grenade. they cleared the surrounding half block area and called out the bomb squad. they found out the driver was employed at a local costume store. he was cited for being in possession of an inert grenade. you are asked to choose halloween costumes carefully this year. be careful where you go and when you put it on. >> we saw the ice cream shops and frozen yogurt places doing record numbers of business. >> a line out the door. i had iced coffee myself today. you know you just down right know it's going to be a hot day here when we're forecasting at the coastline temperatures in the 90s. santa cruz hitting the century mark today. i had to look twice at that number. the official high came in. hot one at the coastline.

run down a u.s. park officer. it happened this weekend on lincoln boulevard in the presidio. investigators say u.s. park officer spotted one of the men breaking into a parked car. the man jumped into a car that was waiting nearby and his accomplice allegedly tried to run down the officer. he missed and the park officer opened fire. the men were last seen in a light tan buick sedan. >>> happening right now, a boycott of a local supermarket chain. a community group right now encouraging shoppers to stay away from pueblo. workers and community groups are very upset over mi pueblo's decision to join the federal e-verify system which a system that checks the immigration status of all new hires. federal immigration agents are auditing that supermarket chain after receiving complaints about suspected undocumented immigrants working at the stores. mi pueblo has stores from vallejo to salinas and also in the central valley. >>> today cleanup is under way after protesters smashed windows and threw paint at oakland city hall overnight. almost 200 anti-war protesters smashed windows and

stevens announced a special memorial service for the u.s. ambassador killed in libya last month. it will take place at san francisco's city hall on october 16th. the family has invited a list of dignitaries, including former secretary of state george shultz and senator dianne feinstein. stevens went to piedmont high school and on to uc berkeley for college and uc hastings in san francisco for law school. the public is also invited to the service. but the city hall rotunda only holds about 700 people. stevens was 52 years old. >>> the san francisco bay is once again filled with the best sailors in the world as the america's cup series is back. that's where we find nbc bay area's laurence scott who is once again an honorary skipper. >> we are on the bay with team korea, victorious today in the america's cup series match racing qualifiers. the youngest skipper by far in the world series competitions here on the bay this weekend. tell me something. what a thrill, not just competing in your first race, but winning your first race. how did it go? >> it's pretty awesome. we managed to get

fiction segment. start with joe biden when he was asked whether u.s. officials in libya wanted more security before the attack that killed the ambassador there. biden said, quote, we weren't told they wanted more security there. here are the facts. state department officials in libya did request more security, but to the state department, not to the white house. it's possible, and ereven likely the white house didn't know but since the state department of the administration bind's statement was misleading at best. as for paul ryan, one of his claims was the administration promised, quote, unemployment would never get to 8%. in fact unemployment hit 8% as the president took office even before he signed the stimulus package. also the administration never made that promise, but there was a report out from the president's council of economic advisers that did project the stimulus package could keep the unemployment rate from going higher. again, ryan's statement was also misleading at best. >>> all right. he traveled faster than the blue angels during fleet week, and faster than the spe
